Impact extrusion: Direct impact extrusion of solid parts

With direct impact extrusion of solid parts, the blank in the form of a solid piece is first upset in the cavity directly next to the die in order to completely fill the cavity. Immediately afterwards the extrusion punch forces the metal through the die, which shapes it. After forming, an ejector punch pushes the shaped part back out of the die.

Toolmaking is basically similar for all of the various impact extrusion processes. The tooling system consists mainly of a standardised basic frame with the working parts attached to it; the actual arrangement is determined by the workpiece being produced.
