Summary
With forging, one differentiates between open-die or hammer forging, in which forming of the part is carried out locally, usually using simple tools, and die or drop forging, in which the part is formed using a suitably shaped tool.
Aluminium forgings are employed above all where high demands are placed on a material’s ability to withstand loading. They are used mainly in the transport and mechanical engineering sectors.
